The Park Estate is one of the most sought after areas in Nottingham. It is a 150-acre private residential estate located a 5 minute walk west of the City Centre. It is also within walking distance of The University of Nottingham, Nottingham Trent University and the Queens Medical Centre. Although The Park is very close to the centre of Nottingham, it is a peaceful and tranquil estate.
The Park Estate is one of the most historic areas in Nottingham. Built on the former deer park of Nottingham Castle, it is home to aesthetically pleasing Victorian architecture and a network of gas street lighting. The Park is a private estate managed by Nottingham Park Estate Ltd and as such, has its own maintenance team who maintain the roads, pavements, trees, the gas light network and the public green spaces. This maintenance is paid for via a tax known as Park Rates. This is included in the rent of most of our properties.
The main attraction in this area is Nottingham Castle. It was first built as a smaller wooden castle in 1067, the year after the Battle of Hastings, by order from William the Conqueror but during the reign of King Henry II, the castle was replaced with a stone construction which offered better defence. The legendary Robin Hood was said to have had the final battle with the Sheriff of Nottingham here. The castle was largely destroyed by artillery fire in the 16th Century and remained empty for a long period until it was remodelled in 1678. The Castle is still in use today as a museum and art gallery.
